Dr Nicolas Cardenas

Research Fellow

Nicolas Younes is a remote sensing and environmental scientist.
His expertise is in the use of proximal and spaceborne remote sensing tools to examine vegetation health from leaf to landscape scales.

His research addresses the effects of changing environmental conditions (e.g. droughts), and natural hazards (e.g. bushfires, landslides) on the resilience, conservation, and health of vegetation. Currently, he is combining hyperspectral remote sensing, biochemistry, and machine learning tools to determine how, when, and where eucalypt forests become more flammable and, thus, present a higher bushfire risk to communities across Australia.
