FIRE & FLOOD PATHWAYS ARE BEST JOURNEYED TOGETHER

PROJECT LEADS: Oliver Costello (Independent Advisor), Jessica Weir (WSU)
LEAD INSTITUTION: Jagun Alliance
PROJECT SIZE: Large >$200,000
DURATION: 3 years

Pathways are best journeyed together, and along the way we can listen and learn from each other and Country. The BNHRC Indigenous Collaborative Research Framework seeks to illuminate the cultural learning pathways that can guide people to learn from and with Country. These learning pathways are literally embedded in the stories of the old people and the physical features of the cultural landscape. This Indigenous Collaborative Research Framework signals opportunities to shift how research is conducted with and by Indigenous knowledge holders.

By prioritising cultural learning pathways on Country, Indigenous communities and researchers can co design the framework to deliver a) evidence about Indigenous peoples’ flood and fire research priorities and impacts; and b) define engagement pathways for all BNHRC research projects to extend their evidence creation. The approach is to build research capacity within Indigenous community organisations, and capacity in Indigenous research methodologies within BNHRC projects.
